What part of sales or marketing makes your stomach go in a knot?

Tradeshows!!!! I am terrible at them
It’s so bad that I’ve been telling myself that tradeshows are not worth my time…

I hate doing it alone!!!! I have always had a partner and now I am on my own. I just don’t like walking in to a room myself. I am not shy or insecure, I am fine when I am there, I just hate the wallking in by myself. I have even bribed my sisters to go with me to networking and sales meetings-lol.
I know it’s something I need to get used to doing alone but I just hate it. I do try to think of it as sharing instead of selling and that helps some.

Followup! The word currently makes my stomach go in a knot because it’s a skill I’m still working on mastering (currently #1 weakness – but to focus on positive, the skill is developing!) Thanks for the fun question Kim!

My stomach really gets itself into a knot when an incoming phone call starts, “I recently bought on of your clothes drying racks.” At that point I am not sure if it is going to be a compliment or a complaint.
As soon as I hear the rest of the reason for the call I can handle what ever the situation is. However those first couple seconds waiting to hear is this person happy or not is stressful….
Thankfully we have a great product and have very few complaints and most calls that start this way are people wanting to place an additional order.

My stomach gets into a knot when I start telling folks about workshops. I never quite feel that I’m ‘qualified’ to teach because I’m fairly new to them. Once I get started I can ramble for a long time and usually get terrific feedback.

Cold Calling. It is definately the most stomach turning of all but, it has become a necessary evil in this slow business environment.
Starting out is the hard part but, once you get a positive response from someone on the other end of the phone it is very energizing and rewarding.
When business is slow…call, call, call. Eventually someone will be happy that you called them with a solution to their problems.

The time it takes me to do it. I have almost no time…no time to answer folks on the computer especially. Drive me nuts.

I agree cold calling is tough, it is a numbers game and if you have belief you can do anything.
I listen to some great up beat music to get me in the mood, or watch a mind movie something that inspires me to work and remember I can help make a change for someone. Could be to help improve a skin issue or health or help them make some extra $$$.
Think positive and keep your “ask in gear”!

The close. Never did sales before and I have comfortable conversations. Just don’t know how to get to the close well enough.

Promoting myself and service to others- in person. I get tongue-tied!

My stomach goes into a knot when ALL of the above things happen — but the one that stops me cold is when a prospective client, who has just listened to 3 minutes of my best efforts at telling him the value to him if he buys a service, says to me: you should know that:
a–my wife was laid off and
b–my son moved back home and
c–my son brought his girlfriend and
d–my father is sick and
e–my house is being foreclosed on as we speak … and on and on and on.
Yikes!
Is there a guidebook of responses to objections such as these?

My stomach knot up when I have to make phone calls. I want to maintain contact with my customers, but that phone is a bear to pick up.
