A Crazy Sales Idea From Jim Carrey!
First off – I am NOT a big fan of Jim Carrey. (Too much rubber face)
However, my 2 cutie pie nieces recently convinced me to rent and watch his movie called
“Yes Man”.
Honestly – I loved it! Afterward my nieces and I had a chat about what it would be like to “Say YES to every opportunity that crossed your path”
My 14 year old niece said “I’d have to join the cheer leading squad.”
My 11 year old niece said “I’d have to eat liver.”
I said “I’d have to go to kick-boxing with my friend Tina!”
The three of us agreed on 2 things.
The first?
We probably say NO too much. (Now I know SOME of you struggle with saying NO – however I’m not one of those people!)
The second thing we agreed on?
We all should say YES more. Not to everything….but definitely to things that stretch us out of our comfort zone. And sometimes to even things that don’t.
So I thought I’d experiment with this.
It was cold, it was snowing, it was an evening event and every single fiber in my being wanted to STAY HOME. Networking event? I could surely pass on this one.
What made me go? 2 things.
- One of my dearest friends was holding the event
- I’d just watched the “Yes Man’ movie by rubber face Jim Carrey
So I got dolled up, jumped into my gorgeous and trusty Land Rover and hit the icy road for an hour drive (one way, at night, in winter – I deserve a medal don’t you think?)
When I got to the event it appeared that many other women had decided to SAY NO and not bother going to the event.
But for me – it turned out pretty spectacular. Even though there were only a few women there.
I met some cool, new people. I have a potential fabulous new coaching client who is getting ready to work with me….and I had some of my friend’s home made meatballs.
(I also won a bottle of wine)
I also had some wonderful conversation with a very successful entrepreneur who hired me years ago to speak at her association. Guess what? She’s a zillionaire and yet she was out in the snow and the cold too.
She said yes. I said yes. And we had a blast!
I normally do say YES to really big things….TV opportunities, being interviewed in the media, going to large international seminars, hiring a coach to help grow my business further, writing a new book, launching a new website (stay tuned!)…
…but I admit that sometimes I do say NO to things that initially feel like a pain.
So what’s my Diva Dare this week?
Say YES to the opportunities that cross your path (big and small) and then send me a note on my blog. I want to hear your adventures!!
Love from Your Sales Diva,
Kim

Hi Kim,
That’s so weird! I feel the same way about Jim Carrey and ended up watching Yes Man over the Christmas holidays. Surprise, surprise, I loved it too! It really made me think about all the opportunities I may be missing out on whenever I say “No”. I am definitely going to make a point of saying “Yes” to more in my life.
Thanks for all you do!

Loved this article. Although I have not seen the Jim Carey movie as yet, I did decide to make 2010 my year of stretching my boundaries and saying YES.
This week, I signed up for a Burlesque dance class (which quite truthfully scared the living bee jeez out of me! Being a bit conservative, the idea of sexy provocative dancing seemed like the ultimate challenge! That was until I went shopping for the shoes! High heels – which I never wear!! and Shopping which is NEVER on the top of my list!
So, yesterday, I spent an afternoon with Kelli at Foxy Rocks Boutique and said YES to two sexy (and funky)pairs of 3 1/2″ heels for dancing and 2 Diva hot jewelled belts so I can doll up my jeans! On top of such a great afternoon, I picked up a new coaching client and am off to a rocking start to 2010.
Perhaps today will be another opportunity for YES! And hopefully my dance instructor will say YES when I ask her to teach me to walk in those heels!

Dear Kim
Yes! and more Yes! I’m excited to be on the look out for all of my new (or overlooked?) YES opportunities! This is sure to help bring in MORE (yes!) prosperity and abundance. Thank you for an uplifting and encouraging first of the year message.

Kim…. I recently watched this with my daughter as well and strangely enough had the same conversation. I laughed as i began reading your blog and you are 100% correct. I am certainly not about to start saying yes to EVERYTHING and won’t be handing over my wallet anytime soon on command. But by saying YES to things that potentialy could be business building or family building is a win , win and can vary to create balance. I said YES to not booking an appt one evening and stayed home and played with my chidren. THE BEST YES EVER! Yes can truly work for us in many ways.
thanks i loved this blog!

Kim, the timing of this article couldn’t be more perfect! Just last night I signed up for a web marketing course. Sounds rather ordinary, right? Here’s the catch – the course is during the month of February. Not only am I in my peak season as an Event Manager, but I’m also a peformer in the Olympic closing ceremonies! I hemmed and hawwed about the marketing course because I didn’t need One More Thing during a very busy month of work and dance rehearsals, plus I have the option to take the course at a later date. But I decided to take on the challenge, and to have faith in myself that I WILL pull it off.
Afterwards I thought “OMG, am I crazy? Did I make the right decision?” But when I logged onto my email this morning and found your article, I laughed and said “YES.”

Hi Vicki,
I loved your note! Good point about saying YES to NO….(hmm – I’ll have to write about that someday as well!)
I really think it comes down to making clear choices vs being on autopilot or overwhelm.
Thanks for saying YES and sending me your thoughts – I appreciate it.

Hey Dee,
The best way to do it is to DIVE IN and do it for 7 days.
You’ll love the results and it is fun being in your own “Yes Experiment!”
Thanks for writing!

Your e-mail put a smile on my face this morning. I too am not a huge Jim Carey fan, but loved that movie. After seeing it I thought about putting the same idea into action, but just didn’t get around to it. Now is my chace to take your 7 day challenge. I will check back in next week to let you know what exciting adventures I get into.

It’s too easy to say NO! To stay in our comfort zone. So many of us are too scared to take a leap of faith or are just plain old complacent.
So it’s YES to fun and adventure and so long as it’s legal, what do we have to lose?
Thanks Kim, yet another (not-so-gentle!) reminder!
Paul.
