Dazzle This Diva! March 18th Edition

kimduke | Dazzle This Diva, Diva Questions For You | Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

This week’s question is from Kevin May of May Flowers & Gifts:

HiKim

I’m so excited & want to double my weddings this year. I have a florist shop in Dallas, Texas. I’ve been in the floral business for 30 years & have been very lucky in booking brides, but this year is showing a change. They don’t know what they want. At the bridal show several brides just had a ring. No date, place etc. This is different from previous years & several vendors mentioned the same thing. Crazy!

My questions are:How do I get the bride to commit to my flowers instead of shopping around? They just want to look at pictures but they don’t know what they want.

I don’t see the bride until she has the bridesmaid’s dresses or at least the color & the location for wedding& reception booked. This has cut out the shoppers.I tried charging a $100 consultation fee if they don’t have a referral but that isn’t working. They just cancel.

I want to stand out from the rest because I do beautiful work & am more about customer service than most of the other florist. Tomorrow I am spending all day away from the shop visiting Hotel reception sites, wedding chapels, dress shops & anyone I’ve worked with in the past, just to keep my face out there.

I appreciate your feed back & always learn something from your emails. I’ve been told I’m the best salesperson but times, they are a changing. Thirty years in the floral business gives me an edge, but I need help. If daddy didn’t have a savings set aside for his little girls wedding, he used to be able to go to the bank & get a loan. Not anymore.

Thank you,
Kevin May

Do You Need A Pinch To Grow An Inch?

kimduke | Uncategorized | Monday, March 16th, 2009

istock_littlegirlsurprised000005829579xsmall.jpg

My cutie pie niece recently celebrated her 11th birthday.

And of course, one of the traditions for a birthday is to get the Royal Bumps as well as “A Pinch to Grow An Inch!”

If you’ve never heard of that line before or don’t know what it means – is you give the birthday person a little pinch and say ” A Pinch To Grow An Inch!”

Maybe it’s just a weird Canadian thing – let me know!

So I Was Thinking….You Probably Need A Pinch To Grow An Inch!

There certainly has been lots of complaining going on lately.

And something I’ve also noticed is that most people like to blame others for what is going wrong with their biz. (and their lives)

The recession.  Their customers.  Their banker.  Their husband.  Blah, blah BORING!

Hey – Did You Just Feel That???

I just gave you a PINCH TO GROW AN INCH!

I think its time for you to SNAP OUT OF IT.  (That’s my mom’s phrase by the way!)

I want you to grow this year….and you know what? It doesn’t matter what is happening with the economy.

Hate to break it to you cupcake but this isn’t the first recession and it certainly won’t be the last.

However – there are millions of business owners who are proactively growing their businesses and making money RIGHT NOW (I’m one of them!) because they know THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME TO GROW.

Why?

They realize this recession is the perfect PINCH TO GROW AN INCH motivator!  Yes – some companies will fall by the wayside.

However in a capitalist marketplace (and thank goodness for that) :

  • The strong survive.
  • The flexible survive.
  • The people who know how to build a community of customers will survive.

I Diva Dare You to decide TODAY that you’re not going to be angry and whiny about your situation.  Really – you’re boring everyone to tears.

Instead – GIVE YOURSELF a pinch to grow an inch and you’ll be delightfully surprised at the opportunites that are currently around you.

 So there.

Dazzle This Diva – March 4th Edition

kimduke | Dazzle This Diva, Diva Questions For You | Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Alright ladies.  It’s your time to shine.  I want to hear what you have to say!

As you know, from reading my fabulous ezine (what! you’re not a subscriber yet?  Well then, click here!), I’ve started a great new Q&A section called Dazzle This Diva.  Each week, I’ll pick one sales and marketing related question, that has been sent in to us at info@salesdivas.com , to share with you.  Your job, my lovely readers, is simply to share your Diva insight and advice.

The first question is from Gina McNew, of The Diva Success Network. Gina writes:

Hello Kim,

So excited to be able to participate in your new Q and A column.

Here’s my sales and marketing question.

I am a local radio show host on a small AM station outside of Atlanta. We podcast however so in truth we are GLOBAL. My newest show The Diva Success Network has only been on the air a little over 7 months and in looking over my guest roster nearly 1/4 of my guest have also appeared on Oprah.

Now, I’m not saying that makes me the newest Oprah of the airwaves, but we do like to joke with our guests that ” Once You’ve Been on the O, There’s Only One Place to Go ” and that’s the DSN show. In all seriousness, I feel that the level of guests that we have interviewed brings great credibility to our show and I want to be able to share those guests with as large an audience as possible while increasing advertising opportunities as well.

Is there a way to use this statistic to fully reach a larger market share of listeners?

I am very excited to hear your feedback and those of the other Diva readers.

Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions.

Sincerely,

Gina McNew
