Want More Sales? Get Some Publicity Lady!
There is a resource out there for you that applies to all types of business.
It doesn’t matter whether you own a retail store, have an internet based business or you are in the service industry.
And this resource is FREE.FREE. FREE.
However - you’re probably NOT using it.
What is it?
You guessed it - THE MEDIA.
So Why Aren’t YOU Sending Newsreleases
To Your Local and National Media?
Easy. You’re:
- Scared to. ” Me - ON CAMERA - forget it!”
- Insecure. ” Why would they want to hear from me??”
- Unsure of what to do. ” What topics would they want to know about?”
- Worried you’ll look or sound stupid. ” I might screw up my words!”
- Thinking they might throw tomatoes at you. (They won’t!)
One of the BEST ways to attract attention to your business is to get into the media.
And 2 of the best resources that I have used are 2 incredible ladies:
1) Joan Stewart. The Publicity Hound www.publicityhound.com
2) Jill Lublin. Promising Promotion. www.promisingpromotion.com
Both of these ladies offer fabulous free info on their ezines, have wonderful teleclasses etc and blogs.
Trust me - I’m a woman who worked in the Canadian national television media for 15 years - if you want MORE MONEY - you need MORE MEDIA attention.
So there.

Hi Kim,
Thanks for leading me right to the source of useful information in my time of need. I look forward to further reading both Joan and Jill’s websites.

Thank you for this article, I am struggling with contacting the media for all the reasons listed! I did get into the media with my last event and now I am having another event and even though I am still scared, it does seem a little easier then the first time.
I will definitely be checking out the websites you have suggested.
Thanks again

The other big roadblock people hit when they try the PR route, is they try it once, it doesn’t work and they give up. Along with the points you have made I expect Persistence is mentioned a few times in your writing and presentations. While I don’t suggest doing the same thing over and over to expect a different result, sometimes you need to hit a source a few times to hit them at the right time of year for their editorial plan or convince them you’re not a flash in the pan.

Thanks for the tips.
I have created two blogs: “The Status of Women in TN” and “24 Major Faux Pas Small Business Owners Make” plus a few nanocasts to direct traffic to my main site: http://www.thenewtnwoman.com (The New Tennessee Woman). I’ve also written PR pieces every 3 months. I am however, frequently amazed by those who wait for others to toot their horn and write a two sentence blurb about them in the newspaper. YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF! The best book I’ve read about the new rules for advertising is the New Rules for Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott. I shall have to look into publicity hound and promising promotion!

You are so right. In these tough economic times, getting in the media is a great way to connect with potetnial and current clients at little or no cost. I have used PR (media and press releases) very successfully. Additionally, I have written articles for specific publications that my target audience reads. Both provide you with excellent exposure and credibility.
